Is Spencer Bachus The New Joe McCarthy?

A fairly unremarkable U.S. Senator gave a speech in February of 1950 where he produced a piece of paper from his pocket and exclaimed he had a list of 205 communists serving in the U.S. Department of State.  Of course, that was Joseph McCarthy whose Red-Baiting caused him to crash and burn as a fraud and failure.

Just this week U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus told a home district crowd in Alabama that he believes there are exactly 17 Socialists now serving with him in the Congress.  From Glenn Thrush’s blog at Politico a quote from the Birmingham News:

But he said he is worried that he is being steered too far by the Congress: “Some of the men and women I work with in Congress are socialists.”  Asked to clarify his comments after the breakfast speech at the Trussville Civic Center, Bachus said 17 members of the U.S. House are socialists.

Spencer Bachus, you are a douche bag.  We’ve been down this road before, pal.  In the end, the American people will spot your fraud.  Try to to take this show out on the road outside of Crackerville and we’ll see how many people are listening.  What an embarassment.
